Frequently asked questions
Where are your offices?
Gentle Guardians Counseling has two Utah offices: Bountiful (1455 South 500 West, Suite C, Bountiful, UT 84010, on Highway 89) and Sandy (9075 South 1300 East, Suite 101, Sandy, UT 84094, just north of Altaview Hospital). We also see clients by secure telehealth across Utah.
Do you take insurance?
Yes. We are in network with SelectHealth, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Regence, United Healthcare/UMR, University of Utah Health Plans, PEHP, EMI Health, HMHI BHN, Aetna, Intermountain Healthcare EAP, and Crime Victims Reparations. We also accept cash, credit card, HSA, and ecclesiastical (bishop/priest) pay. Please verify your mental-health coverage with your insurer before your first session.
How much does a session cost if I pay out of pocket?
A mental-health assessment is $200 and a 53-minute psychotherapy session is $150. Cancellations, no-shows, or appointments changed with less than 24 hours’ notice are subject to a $90 fee that cannot be billed to insurance. Self-pay clients have the right to a Good Faith Estimate under the No Surprises Act.
What happens after I reach out?
When you submit our contact form or call or text us, our front office responds within one business day. We’ll learn a little about what you’re looking for and match you with the therapist who best fits your needs — including a free 15-minute consultation to make sure it’s the right fit.
Who do you work with?
Our therapists work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families. We offer play therapy and sand tray for younger children, specialized teen support, couples and family therapy, and gentle-parenting support for caregivers.
Do you offer therapy in Spanish?
Yes. Several of our clinicians offer services in Spanish, and Oana Opris also offers therapy in Romanian. Let our front office know your language preference and we’ll match you accordingly.
Do you offer telehealth (online therapy)?
Yes. We see clients by secure video telehealth anywhere in Utah, as well as in person at our Bountiful and Sandy offices. Telehealth is a great option if you have a busy schedule or prefer the comfort of home.
Do you have a parenting class?
Yes — we host a free "Active Parenting" workshop, an 8-week program (Tuesdays at noon, offered virtually and in person at our Sandy office) facilitated by Oana Opris, ACMHC. It’s free for existing clients and their families; there’s a one-time $45 evaluation for the general public.
Do your therapists prescribe medication?
No. Gentle Guardians Counseling is an outpatient talk-therapy (psychotherapy) practice. Our licensed clinical therapists provide counseling and evidence-based therapy such as EMDR, CBT, TF-CBT, and DBT — we do not prescribe or manage medication. If medication may be helpful, we’re glad to coordinate with your physician or a psychiatric provider.
